Arrivals procedure to Tenby National Championships
Please see below a document produced by Tenby Sailing Club to help people when arriving for the Nationals. They have also produced a helpful video to aid your approach to the town and club.
If you’ve not been to Tenby, it’s a small pretty village with narrow street and one way systems which are traffic light controlled. The arrivals advice needs to be strictly adhered to and the key points are that boats cannot be taken to the club before Wednesday 2nd September. From Wednesday, this is when club volunteers will be on site to assist in traffic control through town and at the club.
If you arrive earlier than Wednesday you will have to make your own arrangements for boat storage. Therefore you have two options on arrival ; if you arrive earlier than Wednesday please store your boat at your accommodation or campsite until you can take to the club on Wednesday or Thursday. You can also arrange to store your boat at the town rugby club for a small donation of £10 to the rugby club. You will need to book and pay for a place at the rugby club before arrival via the Tenby SC website (within the championships section)
Once access to the club is open from Wednesday onwards please arrive using the arrivals advice. Trailer storage at the club during the event is not possible due to the limited space. Therefore again you can use the two options above for trailer storage.
I hope the arrivals details provided by Tenby SC will help provide a smooth experience when you arrive.
Please be patient and remember all the officials at the club are volunteers and there to help.

Here’s a few bits of info on what we have in store for you at the Nationals.
# Race Officer Briefing 👻
Nigel Denchfield our race officer for the championships will be preparing a briefing document to be issued prior to the event with lots of useful information about the venue, race area, tidal info and the event itself.
A helpful pre read before you arrive, but still make time to attend his formal briefing at 11.30hrs on Thursday at the club.
# Club Teams 👻 ( aka the ‘Northampton Shield’ ! )
The club team challenge is made up from teams of three boats from any club. If more than three boats have entered it’s the first three in the overall standings to count (no need to rank individual boats)
Team Northampton have dominated this category in recent years, so which club are up for the challenge ? Currently (1st August) only Castle Cove SC have thrown down the gauntlet.
Nine other clubs have two entries ;
Royal Windermere YC,Tenby SC, Oxford SC, Broadwater SC, Lee-on Solent, Cotswold SC, Yorkshire Dales SC, Broadstairs SC and Shustoke SC.
So rally your club members to enter and make up a team !
# Buddy pairs 👻
Dean Saxton is busy working on spreadsheets …… looking through past performances, current form and assessing newbies to the class, establishing this year’s buddy pairings.
It’s a great way of integrating the class, sharing knowledge, tips and the racing day. All for fun but who’s in line for winning the buddies league this year in Tenby?
Pairings will need to be finalised at registration with potential late entries but watch this space for some early and interesting pairings.
Who wouldn’t want to link up with Jon Rickard and tap into his Phantom knowledge !!
