Optimum Time Watches Phantom Southern Travellers race report and results for Round 2 at Island Barn SC
The forecast of strong winds did not put off 18 sailors for round 2 of the travellers series. One rigged then thought better of it so 17 started the first race, not all finished. After 2 races we enjoyed a choice of hot lunches and a few decided to stay on dry land as the wind increased.
The race officer had a good day getting all four races completed and a great course set. The support boats were kept busy with Phantom and Aero swimmers all day.
Simon Hawkes and Mike Tustin were tussling all day up the front of the race with Simon clinching overall after a count back. Thats the first 2 opens to Simon who will be looking to defend his Frensham title from last year in round 3 on 23rd April.

Optimum Time Watches Phantom Southern Travellers Round 2 at Island Barn SC Saturday 25th of March
After licking our wounds from the Wimbleball open and Beastie last week we head off to Island Barn SC for the second Phantom open of the new season, for a joint event with our rivals in the Eastern region. This is very central and a good turn out is expected with many coming up from the south west for the challenge. The forecast is looking a bit calmer than last week I'm pleased to say...
Briefing is at 10.30 and first race at 11.00 with 2 races in the morning and 2 races after lunch.
Cost is £15 to include post racing cream tea

The 'Paunch was Launched'
The forecast had been looking fierce all week but on the day looking from the Clubhouse across the course it looked a bit gusty but nothing outstanding.
A gusty force 5 blowing from the west did not deter 9 fine specimens eager to start their 2017 Phantom Southern Series. With visitors from as far as Shoreham, Plymouth and Lee on Solent some had put in a great deal of effort to be there.
A strange correlation became apparent in that the further the competitor had travelled the less the "Paunch" label could be applied, although most that attended as you expect sailing were of some stature.
A guest appearance from a previous National Champion Mr Tyler Harmsworth caused a buzz in the dinghy park but he decided to save himself for the Beasty in a Phantom the following day.
