The first start although clean through up a couple of incidents Charlie Cumbley, Tiegh Corinthian miss judged the tide and ended up on the pin, Laurence Crispin, Stone tacked onto port and his outhaul sheave departed from the boom and ended his sailing for the weekend. In the midst of this Tyler Harmsworth broke clear and led up the first beat chased by Neil Fulcher, Stone, John Wayling, Stewartby, Simon Heusen, Lyme Regis and a quickly recovering Cumbley. Harmsworth extended his lead down the reaches whilst the other jostled for position. Fulcher and Cumbley spent the next 2 laps swapping positions up and down wind. On the last beat Fulcher split right and picked up a favourable lift bring him on to Harmsworth transom at the last windward mark, a competitive run in sued, Fulcher taking the lead ¾ of the way down only for Harmsworth to gybe off pick up a couple of friendly waves and regain the lead on the final mark and lead that he held to the finish. Fulcher took 2nd  with Cumbley 3rd and Heusen fourth. The second race was held back to back, Cumbley made no mistake this time and lead at the windward mark with Fulcher in close attendance, behind these two were  the group of Wayling, Heusen and Harmsworth. Heusen and Harmsworth pulled through on the reaches to round the leeward mark on Fulcher’s tail. On the next beat Fulcher used his upwind speed to break away with Harmsworth fending off Heusen. As the race progressed Cumbley and Fulcher pulled away to finish in that order with Harmsworth 3rd, Heusen again 4th and Wayling in 5th (there’s a pattern appearing here). The sailor returned to the club where one or two refreshments were taken followed by an Italian meal in the club. Overnight the first three were all on 4 points, unfortunately Fulcher had to leave the proceedings due to other commitments.
The 3rd race started in more breeze and a building sea. At the windward mark Wayling arrived in front of Cumbley but them spoilt it with a swim on the bear away, Harmsworth fluffed his tack allowing Peter Bennett, Shoreham and Heusen to pass, the reaches were now full on and perfect Phantom sailing, Harmsworth pulled through to 2nd and when Cumbley sampled the water at the gybe mark took the lead. The next beat settled down with Harmsworth rounding 1st and Cumbley 2nd. Cumbley sailed an amazing run to take the lead by some margin. At the final windward mark Cumbley led with what looked like a comfortable lead, Harmsworth found the groove down the reaches and took the lead half way down the second one, which he held to the finish, Cumbley took 2nd, Heusen 3rd this time and Wayling edging out Bennett for 4th. Race 4 and the decider, Cumbley aced the start and first beat to have a comfortable lead at the first mark, Bennett, Harmsworth and Heusen again rounded together, again Harmsworth used his downwind pace to pass and close up on Cumbley.  Bennett, Heusen and Wayling kept the race competitive throughout not allowing any chance of a rest in the freshening breeze. Cumbley again had opened a decent lead on the run until he got caught out by the waves and took another dip allowing Harmsworth through which he held to the finish and securing him home event for the first time, Cumbley recovered to take 2nd, Heusen again 3rd with Bennett getting his revenge on Wayling to take 4th. A fantastic weekend on and off the water, special mention to Simon (smiley) Hare of Oxford, for which this was his first time on the sea, he finished all races with the biggest grin ever seen.
