The wind was light throughout, mainly force 1-2, but with pockets of force 3 moving across the lake, accompanied with large shifts in direction. Thus ensuring there was quite a lot of snakes and ladders for the competitors. Sadly no local boats participated in the event, so the fleet was a relatively small but select group.

Race 1

With the prospect of flukely winds the visitors all set off for a frustrating race. Ian Jay took an early lead but was soon overhauled by Nick Orman and Tim Hemsley. The lead was swopped between these three for most of the race until the last lap when Hemsley finally got away. Orman in a desparate attempt to sneak past Hemsley on one of those all too frequent shifts completely messed it up and let Jay back through for second. In fact he nearly lost third at one point trying to get to the finishing line.

Race 2

Race 2 was the longest course of the day. The start line was at the far Southwestern corner of the lake and the windward mark was laid at the Northeastern end, giving a long beat across nearly its entire length.

The pin end was already favoured, but just before the start the wind shifted to the left, accompanied by an increase in pressure. As the hooter sounded everyone immediately tacked onto port, and a drag race ensued across the lower part of the lake. Those who avoided the weed pulled ahead.

As the fleet reached the islands the wind pressure dropped and getting the smaller shifts right through the narrow channel proved crucial in establishing who reached the windward mark first. The fleet then zigzagged its way back down the lake. Up the next beat the differences in wind speed and direction caused the fleet to spread out. On the final downwind zigzag Olly Hopkins, Tim Platt and Shaun Curtis got stuck in a hole and completely lost touch with the front four. Tim Hemsley took the win, and the meeting, followed by Nick Orman, Mike Tustin and Ian Jay.

Race 3

After race 2 Ian decided he'd had enough and headed home for an early bath. With only 6 boats left on the water the race officer shortened the start line and mercifully reduced the length of the course. By the time the starting hooter sounded the wind had gone left again. So much so it was almost impossible to lay the line on starboard. For the second race in succession everyone immediately tacked onto port. Tim Hemsley, Nick Orman and Tim Platt started closest to the pin end so led the fleet up the lake. The wind between the islands again proved crucial allowing Nick Orman and Tim Hemsley to slip away, never to be headed. Their private tussle ended up with Nick Orman finishing first, followed closely by Tim Hemsley. Tim Platt found himself on his own between the front 2 and the chasing pack. Getting tangled up with the OK fleet down the run meant the followers gradually caught up. On the final beat the wind filled in from the right so the windward mark could be laid on starboard. This created a long drag race across the lake between Tim Platt, Mike Tustin and Olly Hopkins. At the finish there was only half a second between Tim and Ian. It was so close that neither could tell who had come 3rd until the race officer posted the results.

Tim Hemsley's two wins in the first two races meant he had already won the meeting. By winning the final race Nick Orman secured second. Thanks to Tim Platt's third place in race 3 Ian Jay took third overall, relegating Mike Tustin to fourth.
