2009 red eye sail set up
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:48:46 PM »

So I think that my ancient red eye sail with the funny cut-away tack (early 90% idea?) has to now be promoted to championship sail status. Anyone know who the person to bother in the dinghy park next weekend about how to get the best out of it is? Not convinced I'm quite setting it up right, particularly the length of the tack tie on...

Or if anyone is selling a VGC P&B med cut for a fat superspars carbon mast at a silly price, then let me know.

Jon,

That'll be me then as I bought the sail for Mittens!  I think you'll find that actually "the funny cut away tack" is now a state of the art innovation allowing the use of an inhaul system....

And yes, it is just the piece of kit you'll be likely to need. I'm packing my 2009 version of the same sail that still wins races!

I've just realised that if you look at the photo used by Y&Y for the "Eaters and drinkers" review for the Nationals you'll see me in "Mutley" using that sail the last time we were at Highcliffe.

I was leading a race at that point......so no pressure.

I fear not Chris, this was the second sail that came with my previous boat, now finally updated with the right numbers. Not even the same cloth as yours in that excellent picture. Not that I'll turn down any advice that is offered, of course.

The forecast I just looked at has no more 30kt+ gusts at all. I need to revise my expectations, as I was banking on top 10 finishes in every race that featured only 9 competitors (cf beating the Northampton crew at the inlands owing to them wisely not leaving the beach on Sunday...)

Okay Jon.  I have had several Red Eye sails in my time.  I'm sure we will be able to sort you out.

I think we will all have a "cunning plan" at the Nationals.  Mine involves not drowning...
