Hi Jon,

I'll see if I can get you some photos but basically you might benefit from adding a Dyneema rope strop around the mast to replace the main kicker shackle attachment (assuming that's how "Mutley" remains rigged).

I have the same issue but the strop around the mast and one of the "on trend" ring thingy seems to deal with it.

Hi all,

I have put turning blocks on the foredeck and moved my kicker to the outside set of cleats. Combined with the take-up system (thanks for the video explanation Olly!) it is fantastic upwind.

It does now catch on the outhaul when the boom is right out though. I am struggling to find longer shackles skinny enough to go through the existing blocks, so wondering if the answer is (much) longer shackles attached to the mast foot fitting, replacing the blocks, or something else?

All suggestions welcome of what you have done if you've moved the kicker.

And has anyone tried the alternative of moving the outhaul and Cunningham turning blocks forward from the standard 2007 fit out place? I'm not sure if I have room unless I move everything else too (daft idea) or use double blocks on a single fitting for both. I suspect that one of these is what people are doing when fitting out new boats, though.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

Hi Alex
Thanks for updating on the up and coming Chase Open
To be expected as the same for most clubs until we get back to ‘normal’
Looking forward to a full set of events in 2021 in the Midlands

Hi All,

Hope you are all well in whatever times these are!

Unfortunately, the club has taken the decision to cancel all open meetings this year, however we do look forward to having the Phantoms back in 2021!

We can do it with a bit of thought Gordon. Social bubbles in the evening could solve main problem. Rigging launching shower sailing I don't see a problem apart from rescue and committee boats having to be in a family bubble. Needing rescue could be a problem...
See you there big boy

Hi Phil
I do hope the club can find a way to accommodate us. Might be the only event I can do this year.
It is difficult even with the 1m plus distancing coming in, part of the reason we go to Nationals is to socialise with other Phantom sailors don't know how big the clubhouse is so not sure if this will be sensible. Also you have to consider will we get the entries to cover the costs if people are uncertain.(Should have gone for the January entry then quite a lot might already be committed)
Not an easy decision for the class or the club all you can do is keep talking to them.

Hi - is there a list of suggested lengths / sizes of rope to replace the rigging on a phantom. The main halyard is probably first on the list but wanted to get the ropes prior to taking the old one off.  Many thanks

Or do them all and call it a European series to promote the class. I'm sure Ovington would like some extra sales. I don't mind running their new European operation if they get an office on Lake Garda with a balcony flat above !!

I would prefer Carnac or Lake Garda. The foods and wine are better!

Some may not be aware as I wasn't cos we don't do Facebook, talk is taking place about going to Medemblik in Holland for and open event. We need 20 boats for our own start in the 2021 Spring Regatta. I'm told its a medieval town so nice for non sailors too !!
Can I suggest anyone with a genuine interest in going add to the list here where everyone has access...
