2019 Midlands Series -
« on: November 29, 2018, 06:35:33 PM »

Hello to all Midland Phantom sailors ..... and others.

By way of introduction I am your newly press ganged appointed Midlands Representative and just getting round to thinking about next season.
As we know there are established traveller circuits in other regions of the country, but for some time now no Midlands Series.
I would like to set up a series of open events for 2019 and welcome all your views before doing so.
A number of questions come to mind, which I have my own views to , but think it important if we are to get good support and reasonable turnouts that you all have your say. Hopefully ending in a consensus.

1. How many events ?
2. Suggested venues/Clubs volunteering to hosts events?
(2019 Inlands - Already agreed as Northampton SC)
3. Should we share an event with the Northern series
    (North v Midlands)
4. Would we like a sea event?
(accepting that we are not close to decent venues)
5. One or two day events, or a mixture ?

Hoping  the above (feel free to add more) will generate a debate to enable me to come to some conclusions !

I think it's really important that we generate a "Midlands Vibe" not only to support our existing Phantom sailors but also to help generate the class in our region and potential new members.

Please use this discussion page as "our" local forum to generate new topics and chat. We have a wealth of knowledge and skills in the Midlands ....... let's use it !

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Regards

Hi Mike,
Good luck not that you'll need it, good to have something to read on here.
I have added the Nationals into the Southern series as it's down here next year, to help people get 3 out of 5...

Hi Mike
It'll be good to get a Midland's circuit off the ground next year. There is always sailors from Shustoke willing to challenge themselves at different events, and with some local opens I'm sure we can entice some more to travel.
We have planned our traditional meet with the Lasers for the 22nd September of next year which can hopefully fit in. Combining a race with the Northern Series at Blithfield would also be a good way of fitting in another Midland race it it could work with them.
I'd suggest keeping it simple, having local one day events rather than weekends or sea events to encourage a wider range of people rather than just the committed but would be interested to hear other views.
Regards, Brian

Hi Mike
My view follows Brian's. We will get more taking part if there are some one day events.
I currently plan to do the inlands, nationals, Salcombe YC regatta week and probably the Salcombe Open as well, so the odd one dayer would be very nice!

Hi Jim
Thanks for your reply and input into the 2019 series.
Duncan, still sounding out opinions for what people want, so please add what would be good for you based on my original posting.
Not had a huge response as yet, so all those midlands sailors or others who may visit from other regions........ please comment.

I will probably start to set a mini series up in the next month making sure we avoid dates of popular events in other regions.

Clearly we already have two major events in 2019 featuring in the Midlands ( the Inland Champs @ Northampton and the Winter Champs @ Grafham) so these will form part of the series and will be looking for two or three other venues to make up the series.
Any thoughts / offers  ???

Hello Mike
Sorry for the delay what suits me best are one day events on a Sunday
And all close enough so the drive is not longer then 1.5 hours 😂😂

Fully understand that's your in a tough position trying to organise it all.

Would a Midland Facebook group be a faster
 Way to chat?!

Re clubs I'm new to the class so not sure where you have been.
Blithfield is good.
I as at Attenborough which is a gravel pit near Nottingham not sure if these are no no's

Anyone know if the NOR is available for the inlands? Can potentially sail the Sunday, depending on the details

Thanks

Phantom Midlands Series - 'Golden Ticket'
P+B sponsors of the Midland Series have announced a 'Golden Ticket' Series prize.

Each event entered will generate a raffle ticket for each boat and all series qualifiers will be entered into a prize draw. The more events you enter the better chance you have of winning the series prize.

Look forward to seeing you all at Carsington to collect your entry raffle ticket !!
