Phantom Inlands

Carsington Sailing Club were the hosts for the 2010 Phantom Inlands Championships sponsored by speed sails.  Six races were sailed over the weekend and a smaller than expected but strong fleet were in attendance.

Race one started in a light and slightly shifty and patchy 7 knots of wind on a trapezoid course.  Andy Couch managed to be in front at the finish but soon found out he had been OCS along with Simon Hawkes.  This let Norman Byrd to take the victory followed by Nick Craig and Pete Evans.

Race four one Sunday started with a sausage triangle course and more wind 10 – 12knots which provided some more physical racing.  Simon Hawkes soon established a lead and won the race, Andrew Wilde managed to take advantage of the Nick Vrs Andy Couch battle downwind to finish second followed by Nick Craig.

Race five was sailed on windward leeward course with the wind increasing and large gusts coming through on different sides of the course made the sailing tough.  Nick Craig was in the lead from the start and won the race followed by Andrew Wilde and Andy Couch who had managed to pull through the fleet.

Race 6 started on a trapezoid sausage course and Nick Craig lead from start to finish to be crowned Phantom Inland Champion.  Pete Evans was 2nd and Andrew Wilde was 3rd however but had to retire due to missing the spacer buoy at the windward mark allowing Simon Hawkes to take 3rd.
