Notice of Race
Phantom Open Meeting
Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th April 2013

The Open meeting will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
Local SI will be available during registration.
Fees: £15.00, Cheques payable to UP River Yacht Club.
Saturday:
Tea & Coffee will be available in the clubhouse from 10am
Lunch will be available before racing at additional cost.

Race 1 start time - 1300 from the Clubhouse line by the slipway.
Race 2 start time not before 1430

Evening:
Dinner will be by takeout form whichever takes your fancy. We have Indian, Chinese and a good old chippy.
Bar will be open from Lunchtime till late.
Camping is available on site if you haven’t got a friend nearby, please let me know if you intend to camp.

Sunday:
1300 start from the clubhouse line by the slipway

3 short races back to back

Breakfast: Bacon Rolls, Tea & Coffee will be available in the clubhouse from 0900
Lunch will be available before racing at additional cost.

Prize giving:
As soon as possible after racing on Sunday (approx. 1600)
Results: 5 races, 3 to count

Please let me know if you intend to come for the 2 days and if you will be camping at the club.

Excellent, just in case any SWAGS are looking at things to do there/places to go, there is plenty of shopping around, battlesbridge is 5 mins away if your into antiques, or for the real essex experience there is Basildon, within a 15 car drive away (subject to not being car jacked)

What a tremendous sail ..... especially 2nd race Saturday when the wind 'blew', rain turned to hail and only a hardy few survived !
It was horrid at the front 'cos I didn't know out of the 13-different marks, where I was going, and Marcus was 'doing-his-nut' shouting past me at the lead-RiB that zig-zagged maybe towards the next mark, and then turned around it whichever way it wished;  on a reach I needed to let Marcus through to show me where to go, then unfortunately overtook him again only to lose my way yet again ..... Doh!
Huge apology to Marcus for misleading him around the last mark the wrong way!  I had it written-down that way!
My head still hurts !

Only heard about this afterwards, but how 'Strider', does one manage to get one's rudder inside another boat's forestay? ..... fascinating !

It puzzled me too! I was intent on righting the boat when suddenly Daren yelled "don't do that! Your rudders inside my forestry!" I didn't know he had parked on top of me at the gybe mark - but there again I was "busy"!

My new policy is don't win the first race of an open-it's the kiss of death as you have the dubious honour of carrying the Go-Pro to record your mess up of the next race!
