2010 Winter Championships
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:08:53 AM »

 Hi Guys

What would be your thoughts on holding the winter championships at Oxford Sailing Club (Farmoor Reservoir).

 Its possible advantages are ;

 Big open peice of water
Sits inthe middle of the coutry allowing easy access from all the regions
Somewhere different from Northampton (not that theres anything wrong with Northampton)

If you have any veiws post the here an will link with Big and Lardy to sort something out

It would be nice if the venue had some good very lcoal accomodation at reasonable (i.e. cheap) prices. Its no use having a venue that is miles from anywhere without it cos how would we all get pis*** in the evening? I wouldn't camp at that time of year. Any ideas on Oxford on this one?

The Blaze fleet often used to use Oxford - nice venue if a little pricey for Entry with no extras !!    I stayed here twice and very nice it was too !!

Oxford is a great venue for sailing in almost all wind directions/ conditions, I should know I sailed there for over 19 years..... Its centrally located with good road networks from most directions. Its only weakness is accomodation. No camping or staying on site overnight.. This is a Thames Water ruleing which used to be strictly enforced including DSQ from the event from people who tried sleeping in cars....!
There is good B&B accomodation in the 2 nearest villages Farmoor & Cumnor or if your really lucky your family still live in the village....!
It would make a great venue for the Winters (where less people want to stay in cars campers & tents) for either a 1 or 2 day event..

I just did the OK winters @ Oxford and it was very well run with a decent course & a race officer who was on the ball and moved marks and knew where the black flag was when needed!

Would be a great venue for next years Winters, hopefully we'll keep that same generous sponsorship
There's a fledgling Phantom fleet at the club so would be good to go there

Frensham Pond for winters 2011 then?!

I have spoken with the club (Oxford S.C.) to see what the availabilty of the facilities are for next February/March time. At present these months are free but  I have been warned that they will start to fill up, a lot of other fleets like the water around this time.

If the Phantom fleet would like to descend on Oxford for a one day winter championship could we please come up with some dates of interest
(not clashing with the SNT or Tiger Trophy) and we might be able to arrange something. All comments welcome.
