Sunday 29th June was pencilled in the diary for the 6th round of the ever popular Tempera Tech Eastern Series.
Dedicated travellers (including the Creeksea massif) fought off the credit crunch and high fuel prices to battle it out at Rollesby Broad Sailing Club.
The wind was running almost straight down the broad, which brings with it shifty conditions. Large shifts would catch out the rusty, but it did ensure that the racers could battle on every lap.
The first race saw Andy sail off into the distance only to wait for everyone on the last lap and just get the gun by a wisker. I pipped James Jarvey for second using the Frary sail um past the line technique , a lesson meated out to me on a previous visit to his home club.
Andy Rod and John had most of race two their own way and finally finshed in that order.
After lunch John Wayling waved goodbye to the fleet at the start line of race three and produced a display of sailing excellence seldom seen at this level of the fleet. Was it two clear legs ahead of 2nd place Andy or three?
Andy, sat out race 4, munching cake in preparation for his birthday celebrations but missed a thrilling finalee with Marcus taking the gun on his final race as a single man. Further down the fleet the lower orders slugged it out and a tight finish for the second to sixth places , and countless place changes which decided virtually all the mid fleet order.
Overall we all had a nice days yotting with many lessons of life learnt: don’t give up, it’s not over till it’s over, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and don’t lend your fast boat to Simon.
Thank you all for visiting Rollesby and don’t forget the next round of the Tempera-tech series at Creeksea on the weekend of the 19th July.
