2008 Nationals - Felixtowe Ferry SC
« on: September 08, 2008, 10:18:17 AM »

Firstly I would like to thank Ian Miller (Windy) for all his hard work and organisation that went into probably the most difficult Nationals ever, seriously affected by the weather :(
Second thanks must go to the Club, Galley and Bar for keeping us fed and Watered :-*

Anyway we finally got to sail but I think the alcohol level in my blood was too high after two days of drinking from 12 noon to midnight ::)
and my legs ached from dancing to the excellent band on Saturday night :-*

Crossing the bar was "Interesting" ;)

The actual race area was great, good courses set, quick turnaround once the wind n tide had settled, think we need to make sure the winward mark has about 10 ft of chain which goes straight down as I was one of the victims to fall to its rope at a jaunty angle :-[

The waves were good for surfing, yes I did pump off the top of each wave 8)

All in all a great event considering the weather, wil be interesting to read all the other Y&Y reporst to see how other clubs fared :-\

Roll on Landudno, if thats how you spell it ;D

lol ... you've got a year to practice  :D
here are some tips

Welsh Pronunciation
Getting your tongue around the words
Letters which don't appear here are exactly the same in Welsh and in English.

c as in the English 'car' never as in 'cease'.
ch a dry gargling sound in the back of the throat as in the composer 'Bach'.
dd said as the th in 'the'.
f as the v in 'vase'.
ff as in 'office'.
g always as in 'grand' never as in 'giant'.
ng as in 'gang'.
ll A difficult one to describe. Put your tongue into the right position to say L and then blow hard. It should work!
r As in 'perfect' but rolled more. A cat purring comes pretty close.
rh very similar to r, but you should hear the h.
th as the th in 'thin'.
There is no K, Q or Z in Welsh although an S is sometimes used to give a Z sound as in sw (a zoo).

Yes proper Welsh  :P

Edrychwch allan mae’r cwch “jury” yn dwad

I can't wait for the nationals either!! as long as we don't get the same weather as we did this weekend, it will be fine.  Massive shore dump in Llandudno!
Could also come down the road to PD  ;D

Who where these ex Finn sailors?  Why are they ex Finn sailors.  Unlimited pumping is only allowed in over 11Kts.  There are probably only ten fin sailors in the country that can truly managed unlimited pumping in over 11kts, if that many.
