24 Hour Race in aid of the RNLI
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:24:17 AM »

Ok collective, I know I asked last year and met with a resounding tumbleweedesque silence but as this event is close to my heart (I am the PRO and help organise it!) I thought I would ask again for this year's event.

At Lakeside Sailing club (Peterborough) we have an annual 24 hour race and this will be out 15th.  Race starts 15:00 23rd June with a fly-past from the Dakota of the BBMF.  Hopefully you can guess when the finish is....

I would love to enter a Phantom.  Mine will do unless I'm overwhelmed by offers  ;) .  There is free camping, cafe open till late and open again 06:00; bar, BBQ, entertainment, good shopping in town need I go on?

Any takers? I could do with a good opener and finisher as I will be hooting and waving on the shore.

PM if interested.

Andrew

I'm interested, plus I'll see if we can bring some other phantomers from Northampton SC too.. We do have a barn dance at NSC that evening and would have to discuss options.

PM me and we can discuss further

Regards

I would be happy to be on the team, I would prefer to do a 6 hour shift if needed.  I would prefer not to use my boat but dont mind using my rudder / sail etc.

Will/Andy - many thanks for your provisional support.  PM to follow.

I have always enjoyed sail long shifts as I find it most efficient.  Most teams do 2 hour shifts but they tend to be mob-handed!  My team usualy has 4 -5 bods, so the long hours are inevitable.

The use of an Ovi would of course be most welcome! although I should say my boat has been used to win this event twice in the past!

There's plenty of time between now and the event to add more helms should you find you can offer a stint.  Clearly, as the 'local boy' I don't mind doing the graveyard shift; in fact I like seeing the sun rise around 03:30 - lovely!

Andrew,

I am sorry to say I can no longer do this event as it clashes with something else I need to do - I hope this gives you time to find someone else.

Well, second place not too shabby for a woody sailed off 1025 with no reach for 2/3 of the race. Only 46 adjusted minutes behind the winner. Thanks to Will for his support and effort and Paul for last-minute help and phil for the boat loan (sorry we broke it!)
