Insurance
« on: April 01, 2010, 09:10:46 AM »

Forum,

Your help please.  Ive been out of sailing for a year and with a change in class, I wondered if there was a general feeling about any particular insurer.  I was with Noble previously but as there are no 'no claims' discounts in sailing, I feel no particular loyalty.

Regards,

Recently into class with an Ovi with Carbon Rig, I did a trawl of all available ones I could find incl, Noble, Bishops Skinner, Navigators and Gen, Newton Crum etc. and got wildly varying quotes from £75 to £220.  Most do give allowance for No Claims so long as you can provide evidence and also some give discount for such as RYA membership and being a Dinghy Instructor.  Not aware of any have a deal with Phantom class association that you find in some other classes.
The £75 quote was an excess of £30 generally and £100 on carbon spars.

Noble are good but very expensive as you have found out. The one I use is Craftinsure which are reasonable. I haven't resorted to making a claim yet but have heard they are ok. Trawl the forum and you will find plenty of discussion on here on this subject though obviously things will vary from year to year.

Having been with Bishop & Skinner, Craft Insure and Noble all I can say is I have claimed with all of them over the years, with Noble twice and Noble were excellent in both cases, where as the others seemed to want to find an excuse to slow things up >:(

Noble replaced my broken mast in two days last year, bloody brilliant service ;) if you want to keep sailing and not spend time discussing your claim :-[

Noble is the way to go... ;)

agree with Titch, Noble are expensive but payout very quickly and keep you on the water.

I too have nothing but praise for noble. I've made several claims with them on 3 boats over the last 4 years and they have always coughed up very quickly.

Understandably, they wanted to repair a broken mast, but when I took it to their preferred repairer, who told them it needed replacing, they sorted it immediately.

Top notch.

I'm with Mardon Marine (now part of Towergate) as they will insure my 'fleet' for very sensible money.  Not as specialised (you get a powercraft claim form  ::)) or as quick as Noble but they paid out without problem when I broke my mast.

What I pay for our five boats would buy you about two at Noble.
