Port Dinorwic Open 21 Sept 2014
« on: September 03, 2014, 05:18:35 PM »

To all Phantom sailors,

The penultimate round of the Phantom North 2014 series, sponsored by www.standardplus.co.uk , is on Sunday 21 September 2014 at Port Dinorwic Sailing Club (http://www.pdsc.org.uk/ ).

We always have a great time at PDSC – it’s such good sailing and there’s a warm welcome too. Set on the banks of the Menai Straights, with views of Anglesey and Snowdonia, it’s definitely one of the more picturesque locations. It’s worth thinking about making it into a weekend trip and the travel time is only about 2 hours from Manchester, Liverpool or Stoke.

If you’re not sure about Phantom Open meetings, or sailing on the sea, then this might be the event for you – the water will still be warm at about 16oC (Anglesey has its own micro-climate) and there a good chance of a decent breeze (open to the south west).

We hope to have 10 to 15 boat attending and it’d be good to see you there. If you want more information, please send me an email or post a reply on this forum.

Hi Phantom Sailors,

More info on PDSC:
1.   We have had an invitation from Port Dinorwic SC ( http://www.pdsc.org.uk/ )to join in with their sailing the day before the Phantom Open meeting. Also an invitation to join in with their social event on Saturday evening at the club. PDSC are holding their Rawson Cup, which I think is a closed event over two days, and we can practice alongside.

2.   Also, possibility of being part of the Bart’s Bash ( http://www.bartsbash.co.uk  ), a world record attempt at getting the biggest number of people sailing at one time. More news on that later.

3.   PDSC looks like being a “festival of sailing” – there will also be an RS100 open on the same day. Come on guys, we don’t want to out-numbered...!

Looks like being a good weekend. I’ve ordered some sunshine and a fair breeze. Hope to see you there.

Hi Ollie,
I'll be there for the open on Sunday but can't make it for the club sailing on the Saturday (any visiting Phantoms are welcome I'm told).
Hopefully we'll get a good few boats, it's a lovely place to sail!
I think the plan is to include the Barts Bash race as part of the Sunday with the Phantoms a separate fleet.
It's easy to register on line here: http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/user/register
Put in Port Dinorwic into the club drop down and it will fill in the rest for you.
Weather forecast is looking good at the moment too!
See you Sunday,
Alan.

Hi,

Just 4 days to go until the Phantom Open at Port Dinorwig SC, (http://www.pdsc.org.uk/) on the Menai Straights, North Wales. The weather forecast is for force 1,2 or 3 depending on who you believe! Sunshine and cloud with temperatures in the mid-teens – perfect for a sail.

This event is part of Bart’s Bash and you can enter here http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/ . Along with 12,000 other sailors, I hope to have “world record bragging rights” on Monday morning – if anyone will believe me! (What! –You, a world record holder?)

Also, Phantoms have been invited to join in the Rawson Cup at PDSC, which is an open event, so you can get some practice sailing on the tide on Saturday. Social in the clubhouse on Saturday night.

Sounds like a perfect weekend – looking forward to seeing you there.
