Blithfield SC Open 6 July 2014
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:31:14 PM »

Dear Phantom Sailors,

It’s just 10 days to go until one of the most well attended events in the Phantom North calendar – the Blithfield Open on Sunday 6th July 2014. We often get 20 boats at this event as it’s the Midlands –v- North “battle ground”.

Blithfield is a really nice place to sail, with a good breeze and sunshine (well, it was last year!!). For information about the club follow this link http://www.blithfield.org.uk/ and the racing starts at 12.00hrs. There’s a nice place to rig your boat, next to your car and close to the water. What could be better?

The Phantom North 2014 series is sponsored by www.standardsplus.co.uk  and we are just past the half way point. The results for this season so far can be found on the forum, where there’s a link to a Facebook page (but I’ve no idea what that means...!). There’s currently a clear leader (Ed Thomas) and some close competition for second place with just three points separating the next three places. So there’s everything to play for....

If you are new to Phantom sailing and would like to have some class racing, then Blithfield SC is the place to be on 6th July. If you are not too sure about Open events, then give this one a try as there’ll be plenty of banter and even more encouragement for the newcomers.

This event is a combined open with the Solutions, so the number of visitors will be high – so get there early. Hope to see you there.

Looking forward to tomorrow, I'm guessing there will be a galley or similar at the club to grab food?  Also I looked at the nor and there is a two hour gap between races (starts at 12, 2, 4) are these going to be really long races or is it just a break for food/drinks between each race?

Hopefully see you all there.

Hi Matt,

There was food on last year and a bar after racing.
From memory, the third raced finished at about 5pm last year - later for me as I was at the back - which made it a long but enjoyable day.

Cheers

Looked like perfect conditions from the hillside where I was stood, sorry to have missed it.

Who won?

Ed won all 3 Adam he had to work hard for a couple of the wins though.  You would have loved it, was great racing throughout the fleet.

Damned close at the end - with only about a boat's length separating 10th, 11th and 12th!
