Blithfield Open 15 July 2012 - North v Midlands
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:13:44 PM »

Hi to all,

The next event in the Northern Travellers Series for 2012 is the Blithfield Open on Sunday 15 July 2012. This is a joint event with the Midlands Travellers series so we expect to get about 20 entries, which should be good fun.

Blithfield is a really nice place to sail. It has a good water with plenty of space for a good course whatever the wind direction. It's near to Uttoxeter, so has good road links north and south (M6), east  and west (A50). There are Travellodges near by in Uttox, Rugeley and Burton (yes, this could be over selling it!!). There are about 4-6 Phantoms based at Blithfield so it would be good for them to have a fleet to sail with. Follow this link for more club information: http://www.blithfield.org.uk/info/

There are no other Phantom events on that day so it could be a really good event even if you have to travel further.

Post a reply on this topic if you plan to enter so our hosts know how many to cater for.

And now the maths.....how do we score a joint event?
1) Average points per area?
2) Top three podium places?
3) Top "x" places from each area?
4) Don't care, just like to sail?
What do you think?

See you there.

I'm hoping to be there now I have a mended and working boat again, however I'm travelling back from Weymouth on the Saturday after a week down there for the NSSA regatta so it depends on whether everything's gone smoothly!!

As for scoring;
• for individual competitors scoreiy as any normal event and award prizes appropriately
• for North v Midlands, score as average across top 10 boats (not an arbitrary number and could even be across the whole fleet, but need to make sure even number of boats for each area)
• for series result score points based as though only that region was sailing e.g. If we get say 1st, 2nd and 5th places, the competitor finishing 5th scores 3 points as if 3rd and 4th hadn't been there. I don't know what you use for scoring but if it's Sailwave then ir's really easy to do in there.

Just some ideas cos Ultimately I don't care and just want to sail cos the way I'm going at the moment I'll be back of the fleet anyway!!!
