Fishers Green Phantom Open - 2nd April
« on: February 18, 2016, 09:00:23 AM »

The gem of the M25, this picturesque spot hides just off the motorway and is an ideal cheeky day outing in your phantom.

We are visiting early in the year this time so there will be no weed to bother us!

The well stocked kitchen provides many a treat including some of the finest bacons rolls available.

Nick's winter retreat, so he is the best person to gleam all those local tricks from.

I'm intending to come.

Only reason for posting this message is to put myself under pressure to do a bit of travelling this year - sadly I can always find plenty of excuses not to do it.

Now I've made the commitment I can't 'back out'

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 2nd: the weed has completely gone (it was gone by the end of December) so we're now sailing in clear water and will use the whole lake for the open.

So far we've got (adding the responses from the Facebook page):
JP
Chris Roberts
Ian Hill
Graham Dale-Jones
Tim Platt
plus the 5 local boats (Ken, Paul, Gavin, Dave and myself).

Club will be open from 9am with bacon rolls available. Not a strand of weed in the water (has been clear since late December).

Directions on the club website:
http://www.fishersgreensc.org.uk/index.php/club-information

Also if you're interested, we have a weather station on one of the islands which shows the current weather conditions as well as a 12 hour history:
http://www.fishersgreensc.org.uk/cumulus/weather/

Looking forward to seeing you all for the first Eastern Series event this year!

Just looked at the map/directions on the club site.  Having never been there before - is finding it as confusing as it looks?

Postcode EN9 2EG takes you to the Lea Valley Park farms. After you turn on to Stubbins Hall lane from the A194, stay on the left fork and just follow that road round. We should have signposts up on the day.

Also if you put the postcode above into Google maps, you will see Fishers Green sailing club at the end of the road parallel (and to the west) of Stubbins Hall lane.

We're aiming for an 11am start, with 2 races back to back, then lunch and a further race in the afternoon.

First start at 11am, 2 races back to back, stop for lunch followed by single race in the afternoon. It's a single day event, so £10 entry fee.

Report from Graham: -

A beautiful days sailing was had by the seven visitors and two locals at the first Eastern area meeting of the season.
The wind direction was perfect for the venue allowing a windward leg for the full length of the pond, returning to the leeward end via a series of reaching and running zig zags.
The sun shone, 10 to 12 knots plus the odd gust to catch some out, no weed and plenty of water, a perfect day to sort out the boat speed after the winter.
Boat speed had not deserted Matt who proceeded to get three straight wins, only having to work in the second race where Nick led round the first mark having made a superb port tack flyer at the start.
In the 1st race, Matt was followed home by Nick and Tim P.
In the 2nd race Matt had to work a little harder, with Nick leading for the 1st couple of marks, Tim P. was initially 3rd but decided  the water looked so inviting a protracted swim was called for! This let Paul through to 3rd place.
The final race saw Matt disappear into the distance follow initially by Tim P. and Nick, this time it was Nick who opted for a swim allowing Graham up to 3rd.

Thanks to Fishers Green for a well-run meeting, super food and hospitality.
