Not from Fishers Green, but its and Eastern series event, in the Eastern calender as 27/28 September, but think that is a slip of the keyboard and its the 26/27th

So 2 day event.

No doubt JP will update in the Eastern travellers part of the forum in due course  :)

Indeed Phil is correct, it's 26/27th September. The start time on the Saturday is flexible while on Sunday we will be enjoying our own start as part of the regular racing.

Once Nick and myself have finalized the details, I will post in the Eastern section of the forum.

Kind Regards,
JP

OK, so here are the details for the open meeting at Fishers Green on the 26th/27th of September:

Saturday the 26th: 3 races back to back starting at 1pm. Phantoms will have their own start with club racing starting no less than 5 minutes later.

Evening BBQ at around 6pm. We have a large screen projector set up so that we can watch the rugby (England vs. Wales) at 8pm.

Plenty of lawn space next to the clubhouse for tents and motor homes (if you are coming in a motor home please let me know so that I can arrange access).

Sunday the 27th: 2 races back to back as part of the usual morning racing (starting at 11am). Phantoms will have their own start.

Entry fee £15 which includes the BBQ for one person. £5 for non-competitor BBQ.

Any questions, drop me a line at nyannako@yahoo.co.uk (or leave me a message on the forum).

Club website with directions at:
http://www.fishersgreensc.org.uk/index.php/club-information

Approach the club is via the B194 from Harlow and Nazeing or from Waltham Abbey. Ignore the first left turn signposted "Fishers Green Lane". From the B194, turn into Stubbins Hall Lane, the well-signposted approach to the Lee Valley Regional Park public farms. The entrance road then divides into three; take the middle route through the barrier and follow it round past the Car Parks and toilets for the Wildlife Centre. Continue along the road towards the overflow car park, taking the next right hand fork. The final part of our access road is secured by a barrier (which will be left open on Saturday). Go through this and you will get to the main  gate: please send me an email (address above) or text me at 07976 721931 and I'll send you the number.

Thanks,

Nick

Unfortunate clash with family birthday means I cannot make it.

Hope you all have a good time  :)

Report for the Fishers Green Open:

5 visitors joined the 5 local boats for the September Fishers Green open - new venue for the eastern series this year. With a very light forecast on the Saturday and the weed infested waters it was always going to be taxing for all as the first race started in the north corner of the lake with a northerly breeze. First round the top mark was local helm Ken Daniels followed by Paul Bidwell, both of which seemed to have mastered the trick of sailing with half rudder earlier than everyone else. Ken unfortunately went round the leeward mark the wrong way and let Paul and Matthew House (who by now was also getting used to sailing with little rudder) through. These two fought for the lead with Matthew eventually getting through and taking the bullet. Race 2 got underway after a big shift sent the breeze to the east and race officer Jon Steward reset the line and course. This time Nick Yannakoyorgos got to the windward mark first and led for nearly two laps before being overhauled (at the same time) by Chris Roberts to windward and Paul Bidwell to leeward. Chris held on to the finish to take the victory. There was not enough wind at this stage and everyone was getting a bit tired of the weed issues so it was unanimously agreed to call it a day and return ashore for tee/coffee and and cakes followed by a barbecue before settling down to watch the rugby on the big screen (whilst nearly drinking the bar dry!).

Sunday morning dawned with very little breeze despite a good forecast: Eventually Chris Roberts arrived and told us all to stop dithering and get on the water. By the start time of the first race the wind had settled in and race officer Chris Hill set a short course in the same north corner of the lake. The Phantoms went off first (before the other club race starts) and completed two laps of the course before coming across a fleet start at the end of the second lap. Getting tangled up in the traffic seem to help some and hinder others: one of those who got it right was Graham Dale-Jones who stayed away from the club start line and pulled away with a comfortable lead to take the win from Chris Roberts and Paul Bidwell. The course was extended a fair bit for the next two races as the wind has really settled in from the east. This time Matthew House got into an early lead occasionally challenged by Chris Roberts with Graham and Nick closely behind. The choice for the upwind leg seemed to be to either short tack up the middle staying in clear water or to take the shifts but risk drifting on to weeded areas of the lake: neither option was obviously better, so there was a lot of position changing in the last race too with Matthew in the lead and Paul, Chris and Nick all very close together finishing in that order.

Clearly next year's event needs to be held in the spring to avoid any potential weed issues.
