Okay, we've got the Nationals out of the way - it's on to the Eastern Champs. The entry fee is for the weekend and gives access to every club in Burnham - all of which will be having bands, functions etc.
The event is sailed from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club with the Osprey Class. The racing is over long downriver courses - pretty much the same as the Endeavour Trophy courses - with starts from a committee boat.
One of the great features of Burnham Week (apart from the social side) is the diversity of boats racing - I have memories of 12sq Metre(s!) Victory beating up river, whilst old gaffers raced just as hard.
Last year we had some real champagne sailing with the fastest reaching legs ever known by any of us. The weather can't be guaranteed of course but it's usually good.
There is a general dinghy regatta taking place up river from both my home club (Creeksea) and Burnham sailing club. So even if you can't get there in a Phantom / Osprey then you can still take something else...RS100 Simon??? :-)
The full details are to found at
www.burnhamweek.org.uk Entry can be made online.
After the weekend regatta it's the 707 Nationals - whilst I can't sail (boo) "Braveheart" will be out with a Phantom boys crew and Matt (RHYC 1) will be racing hs Dehler (he needs crew so be nice to him here).
Camping is very convenient at close to the RCYC.
Next year Stone SC have asked if they can hold this event - so make the most of your chance to experience Burnham Week.
Any more questions and I'll do my best to convince you to go!!
PS Nick C. What a chance to get some practice in for the Endeavour......
