Hull weight measurement - what's included?
« on: October 11, 2018, 02:47:25 PM »

A little query for the class measurers. When measuring the Phantom hull weight, what do you remove before weighing?
The class rules say it should be the boat in normal sailing condition, minus:

Sail, rudder, stock and tiller - all pretty straightforward.

"The rig" - so mast and boom removed, along with main shrouds I guess. Do you remove the lowers? How about the forestay tensioning tackle on the foredeck? Kicker cascade?

"Loose cordage" - I guess this means you remove the mainsheet. Do you also remove the control lines for kicker, cunningham, centreboard uphaul etc?

Anything else which should be taken off for weighing?

Cheers, Neil

Just remove mast (including shrouds and forestay wire) and rudder, hold the boom and mainsheet off the hull while weighing or remove if you want,  remainder of the bits you mention stay in, kicker cascade  only weighs a few grams anyway so wont make a huge difference to the 61kg minimum if you take it off, all the rest of the ropes and bits stay on as they are 'permanent'

Thanks Phil, very helpful.

Does anyone know of a good source of anti-matter I can use to cancel out some of the mass of my boat?

Filling the tanks with helium balloons before each race might be worth a try.
