Hull Leaks
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:20:37 PM »

 Hi

New to the Phantom fleet, just finding my way with 993.

Over the last few races have noticed a bit of water getting into the hull area
and just wondering where the most likely entry points may be. Rear bungs look
to be OK, just wondering if there has been past issues around the centreboard
slot area.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,
Just reading through the forum and came across your thread.
Did you manage to find out where the leak was coming from as I’ve found the same problem on mine.
Thanks.
Martin.

Hi,
Centerboard casing is a possibility also fittings especially shrouds and back of the transom where top and bottom of the boat are epoxied together. Last one a bit unusual but happened to me and took a long time to find.
Good luck

When I bought the boat, he said some of the fixings needed tightening. What do you suggest to seal them?
My boat is 938, so quite old.
The gunwale looks sound, but how do I check the centre board casing?
Thanks.

Best way to fond leaks, fit a schrader type valve to a hatch cover, attach it to a foot/ bicycle pump, drop a 'smoke bomb' in the hull, fit the hatch cover and shove in a few pumps to build up a bit of pressure, watch where the smoke comes out from
