The Gods Visit Bedfordshire.....
« on: December 14, 2009, 05:27:05 PM »

Last weekend saw the last training session for the year at the rejuvenated Stewartby SC where the growing local fleet were joined by gods both physical and those more omnipresent.

Turning off the M1 the prospect of a dry day looked to have turned for the worst but the gods looked favorably on our little band of knowledge seeking brothers and the rain cleared leaving a largely blue sky and a gentle 10 knots or so of breeze.  Perfect for the day ahead.

Once rigged and full of ‘phantoms delight’, a full breakfast, we took to the water under the direction of Admiral Wayling for practice starts and tacking drills.  After a pit stop for chili and a debrief it was back to the water for some longer races and some more drills under the added scrutiny of Simon Childs.

So having been visited by both weather and yottin gods the final act of the day occurred when the bar opened and gave the brothers a chance to regain their strength for the weary but satisfied way home.

Many thanks to Titch and Simon for their invaluable comments as everybody came away having taken a lot from the day.

My best also go to Clive, Simon and Travis for making the trip, Andy for doing the organisation and of course Sarah for the food.

Two nights later I still wake in a cold sweat to the shouts of “that’s still not flat”…….  Oh well back to the calendar to sort out some practice sessions before the winter Champs.

Have a great Christmas putting on more hiking moment….

Cheers

Ian
