Title: Which way to Weymouth?
Post by: Phantom Titch on June 30, 2015, 03:54:02 PM
Ok so next event in two weeks is Weymouth, coming down from Wellingborough so lots of options on routing, any places I should avoid, speed limited to 55mph as the motorhome drinks fuel @ 60 :o

Titch :-*

PS who else is coming?

Hi All
I am entered but not paid but due to car repair costs am now not going, so if you want a space let me know and I will contact Weymouth and get them to swap the entry. Wish I was going had a fantastic time last year.
Titch
Directions for you I would have thought would be, A34 from oxford down, Winchester M3, onto M27 west and along Ringwood, A? Dorchester  and down to Weymouth.

If you come down on Friday you'll suffer on the m25/m3 303 as everyone in London will be leaving. Google say go down the a34 all the way to the m27 but then you'll have Southampton and Bournemouth traffic to contend with. Personally I'd go a34 as far as the 303 then across to the a350 to Blandford and across to Weymouth. That way you'll miss all the cities on route. If you leave later than rush hour just go down to the m27 on the a34.

That said anything I say will probably be wrong whichever route you take. Good luck and enjoy the sailing

Whoops that route takes you past Stonehenge, always a bottle neck. You could come off earlier through Salisbury then Blandford on the a354. Salisbury can be a nightmare with traffic though. Probably just best doing the m27 route and hope you go past Bournemouth late enough that you miss rush hour

I'm planning on going down early morning/midday on Friday to miss as much traffic as possible.
You could leave early too and instead of sitting in traffic you'd be in a deck chair with a beer......?

See you friday.

Come on people
It was a windy weekend what happened, spill the beans!
Stoking breeze at Lee so waves must have been brilliant at Weymouth even in the harbour.

A snippet from the general report.
Phantoms

The 10 boat Phantom fleet were all square at the top after what must have been a hard graft Saturday hiking through the lumps in 25knts. John Wayling had 2’s and 1, and Mike Tustin two bullets and a 3, with Olly Hopkins in close attendance until retiring from race 3. The whole fleet voted with it’s trolleys at the end of Saturday by deciding for them that is was going to be a 2 race day, but not before Mike T had wrapped it up with two more wins. John and Olly secured the other podium places albeit with Matthew house only 1 point behind in 4th.

Phantom Results:

Pos   Sail No   Boat Name   Helm   Pts
1   1438   Mr Tickle   Mike Tustin   7
2   1346   Maud   John Wayling   15
3   1298   Spongebob   Olly Hopkins   17
