I'm planning to go but does anyone have a spare lifting rudder please I can borrow ......

Low tide is 10.27 Sat and 11.27 Sun and speaking to the Merlins fixed OK on high tide but not low.

Thanks, Nick

We are launching from Batson creek which has a channel dug to it for all tide access but I have seen a few Merlin's have their sterns ripped out by having fixed rudders so yes lifting is advisable!

would somebody from Salcombe YC confirm that that there won't be ANY risk of grounding on the race course and approaches ?

even I recognise that gaining local knowledge downwind in F6 with a fixed rudder is foolhardy !!

Thanks
Steve

The risk is launching out of Batson, there is a channel for the fishing boats and so long as you stick to it you are fine. Once past the town quay you are in the clear.
There are no shallows on the race course, but as with all river / estuary sailing if you get too close to the shore you run out of water.

Excellent and as I thought quite straightforward can't wait to get out there.
Only sinking I'll be doing is in the club bar !!
