« on: March 26, 2017, 04:13:36 PM »

2nd   Phantom   Phantom   1438   Bowmoor SC    MikeTustin
3rd   Phantom   Phantom   1414   Shoreham         Steve Popple
4th   Phantom   Phantom   1419   Wimbleball SC   Paul Birbeck

15th   Phantom   Phantom   1408   Island Barn SC Thomas Alex Dawson
16th   Phantom   Phantom   1167   Broadwater SC  Dave Patrick
16th   Phantom   Phantom   1184   Creeksea SC   Graham Dale-Jones

Well done Nick and all the helpers at Island Barn we were well looked after with some 'windy' racing and well looked after in the galley, nice club.
I think a south v east annual challenge should be regular fixture. Maybe alternate between ponds and sea to keep it fair. Next year how about Shoreham Downs or Minnis Bay for a rematch...

Downs is a gem but it's in the southern region and we are going east for the rematch after savoring the victory for a year...
I know there are a couple from the east joining us in Downs. You would enjoy Creeksea too Steve...

Who's doing the race report ? No need to mention my newly acquired Milanes daggerboard rudder blade beating my boat to the bottom of the concrete hill after the racing...

I'm sure this has been talked about often, But how can Downs not be included in the Eastern Circuit when its further East than most of the other events. Is it South because you have to cross the Thames?
Surely there's a case to include in both as it is nearer the East events than most of the South events.

I'll get my coat!!!!

Gents

Inter regional competition is good, it boosts the numbers, pretty much what the GP was aimed at doing, but could everyone remember the regional reps spend alot of their spare time liasing with various clubs trying to sort dates and locations. Not everyone will be happy or will agree the locations.

As such can i suggest we leave it to Ivan and Chris to discuss where and when (if) there is a rematch then put the options to each region for discussion.

On this basis I hereby claim the right hand side of the entire United Kingdom as being in the East....

Seriously, the idea of regions should be to allow sailors to attend relatively local events.  I love Minnis Bay and I'm sure I'd like Downs - but there are limits as to how far you can expect travellers to go for a series.

If Ivan's "empire" is similarly stretched from Lands End to Ramsgate then maybe we should be looking at South East and South West.

We shouldn't discourage clubs and sailors from hosting events if they are something they would be popular and well attended.

I'll also get my coat....

I think Downs are in the southern region because they want to be and we like having them. Good point re a club being in 2 regions and I see no reason why not.
So you like Minnis Bay too Chris, thats my plan poach it off you and grow my Empire gone !!
South v East was a good idea of yours Chris and worked really well at Island Barn so I am proposing for next years calendar. We hook up this time and have a southern/eastern v north/midlands at perhaps Northampton SC I think they have some average Phantom sailors there !! And make it a 2 day event with a Saturday evening knees up, I know they have some above average party people there  :)

Or have it on the sea halfway up in a nice family friendly location.
Its not the Inlands or Nationals this is I'm thinking a more light hearted more hangover type of event...

If you take Downs and Minnis, I'll poach Northampton as an Eastern event - unless we can persuade someone to start up a Midlands region?

Who knows any half decent Phantom sailors who would be keen to organise something from say Northampton or Blithfield??  If we don't offer them something they could just drift off into OKs or Solos.

That would be sad....their regional rivalry would be with the Northern Region (yes, some may say that Northampton is the far North, I know ;-)  ).

Isn't the North / South divide the A303 / M3?
Wimbleball, Bowmoor, Burghfield = Northern events.

The 'Midlands'? Is that like Middle Earth? I think I saw a trilogy of documentaries about it a few years ago. Didn't look terribly inviting.

Its Southern/Eastern regions v Midland/Northern regions 2018
Each region can pull out results towards their individual series too

If we put it on they will come...
Could be a good event
