2017 southern series draft dates
« on: December 16, 2016, 02:18:52 PM »

Hi all, hope you enjoyed this season. After listening to all comments and requests for open an meetng to be put on the calendar here it is...

18th March Winbleball (Fleet building)
25th March Island Barn (joint event with east)
23rd April Frensham (most popular event in 2016)
6th May Lee on Solent (Nationals practice and Gordon deserves one)
28th 29th May Shoreham (Tried for June and my club)
8th 9th July Weymouth (Requested by SW fleet they will go anyway)
5th 6th August Downs (cos its a great experience and Chris wants us)
8th 9th 10th September Nationals (only southern results to count)
14th October Bowmoor (Olly want to show us a good time)
11th November Burghfield (A final sprint nice and central)

10 races and only 4 to count. This is after all a travellers series and I think there is enough choice for everyone to get to a meeting or two. Including the nationals in the series as it local means only three more to do to qualify
and with lots of one day events I dont see a problem...

Everyone who wanted an open has got one so please try and support a few and attend the nationals what ever your standard, you will love it and learn so much. Boat tips hangover tips ect ect !!

Anyway thats my attempt to try and please eveyone all of the time...

Nice one Ivan aka The Ashington Ace !

four to count with a wide geographical spread is spot on - thanks

can I respectfully suggest you get the dates up on Events as soon as you can so Optimum Watches etc get max coverage & sailors can plan (or plot how to beat you!!)

Hi All
The plan for Lee on Solent will be training on the Saturday 6th with  Simon Hawkes who will then aim to beat us all on the Sunday. More info about the plan for Saturday night nearer the time.
3 or 4 races back to back on bthe Sunday.

Good Job Ivan and thanks for getting the list out early and I fully approve of 4 to count.   Health permitting, I will try and attend a few next year.   :)

Hi Jeremy
Sorrow to read you had been ill, I must admit I was suprised not to see you at Burghfield as it was single day event and on a lake and not to far.
Be good to see you and the guys from Frensham next year to support the rest of us sad souls who travel.
Have a good Christmas

Hi   As a newbie can someone tell me what the Exmoor Beastie and Phantom open is all about? Is there any camping or Motorhome facilities and any non sailing activities?

The Exmoor Beastie is a three hour pursuit race around the perimeter of wimbleball lake. Usually hard work but a great race. There open is on the day before, normal format of three racesi would suspect but Simon Hawkes (coastbuster) will confirm. A great weekend racing on a fantastic lake

Simon will be able to tell you more regarding campers etc. There is a cafe and leisure area next to the sailing club. Nice walks around the lake as well. It is normally quite cold at that time of year as it is on Exmoor but sometimes brilliantly warm

Hi Graham,
Great event to kick off the season. I do the Phantom open on Saturday only as I prefer fleet racing. And its not cold at all when you start racing...
I bought my latest Phantom there 3 years ago and we stayed overnight and made a weekend of it. Very nice area to explore and good views out of the club over the lake for spectators.
Hooe to see you there

Hi all, another newbie question: is any pre-entry required, or is it 'turn up, sign in and sail'?

The latter Dave. Wimbleball are a very relaxed and friendly club.

As for not cold Ivan?? You should have tried it four years ago when it was -2 degrees. Yep it was cold..... That said I have done the Beastie pre phantom open days in shorts. It's march so anything can happen just make sure you bring some thing for all conditions and you won't get caught out.

I would stay for the Beastie, it's worth doing at least once. Ivan really is missing out

Ian you are just a wimp. Campers are not officially allowed on site overnight ,however the K1 visitors park in an area behind the Club with access to the Club facilities. The Club has had an enormous amount spent with new, double glazing, replaced showers and changing rooms etc. Even if inclement outside it will be cozy inside. Would be great to see you all . Food will be available on the morning and a cooked lunch . Local pubs do accommodation and good evening meals. I shall post a flyer with all details very soon.
