Phantom open at Lee on Solent SC

The two races sailed on Saturday afternoon in a F5 set the tone for the weekend with honours being shared between Andrew Wilde and Simon Hawkes .These two did not have it all there own way with Ian Jay (Maxibuddah) leading at the first windward mark in race only to capsize at the leeward mark, but he made up for this by winning race 4 on the Sunday.

Unfortunately in between races Gordon Keyworth capsized and reefed his rig in the Solent mud. This should have worried Andy who had deliberately capsized to try and straighten his burgee, not the last time he was to feature in daft behaviour over the weekend but the only one on the water.

The Saturday evening was a good one for Bar takings but a local guitarists will be checking the tune of his guitar after an impromptu song followed by it being returned to him with the comment ‘ its out of tune mate’ in a gentle northern lilt. The singer was also getting lost on his way to the campsite and had to ask for directions from a helpful policeman.

Sunday dawned with a light south westerly which gradually built through out the day and allowed for races back to back allowing the Sunday only guys from Frensham a crack at the chocolates. Andy despite looking like death proved his ability in the light with a large win in race 3 followed home this time by Nick Orman with Simon third.

Race 4 was won by Ian with Simon second and Andy may be with the pain kicking in in third.

Race 5 Simon wins with Andy second and Simon Heuson gradually building a consistent set of results after his discard in early after a capsize in race 1 to be third overall.

This left race 6 in now force 4 and gradually building chop to settle the event between Simon
Hawkes and Andy Wilde. Nick Orman and Simon Heuson managed first and second with Andy 3rd and Simon recovering from a bad first beat to 4th.

Overall with both now on 9pts it came down to discard with Andy adding to his Inlands title proving he can cope with salty windy stuff as well.

A happy but tired bunch returned to the clubhouse for prize giving along with the Solutions and Vareos who like us had all had a cracking weekend sailing.
